Lord Howe Island with world heritage status was a wonderful place to holiday. We flew from Sydney on a small Qantas plane over the Pacific Ocean for a couple of hours and landed in paradise. We came in over the lagoon with its coral reef, close to the gigantic volcanic mountains. With sunny skies and a warm breeze, we were ready to make friends and have a great time.
For seven days we ate fresh food and were active, riding bikes, walking, swimming and snorkelling. We had a local guide, Peter, for three of the days who guided us on walks in the forest and around the island’s edge and drove us to points of interest. We learnt a lot about life on the island and the protection of the environment there. With tourism capped at only 400 visitors a day, we were some of the lucky few to holiday on Lord Howe.
In our free time, we rode the bikes that came with our accommodation or walked to explore walking tracks around the island. The beaches were spectacular so were a favourite spot for some sisters. The reef there is alive and well with beautiful colour and turtles and fish are plentiful. One morning we had a private yoga class under the palm trees on our lawn while others played golf or relaxed with a book. Bird watching was easy with a fabulous array of bird life. We enjoyed each other’s company and also loved time alone. A healthy fun holiday, we left so relaxed and enriched, having made new friends and living the moment with nature in this island paradise.
