We’ve entered this land of the long white cloud
Of my country of birth I really am proud
Landscapes of beauty, Māori culture so rich
A hop, skip & jump across that rough Tasman ditch
From Auckland we venture to Bay of Islands up north
To this water-playground, the sisters go forth
A fishing ‘n boating haven, view the Hole in the Rock
To the island of Russell, do we tourists flock
We continue our journey through farmlands so green
Glowworms at Waitomo, majestic caves to be seen
Hello Middle Earth, Hobbit Holes built to suit
Each Lord of Rings character, a tour oh so cute!
In Rotorua we sample the steaming hot spas,
And then spend an evening at Tamaki Māori Pa,
Such traditions we learn, enjoy a feast of their Kai,
The spine tingling music, brings a tear to our eyes
Art Deco city Napier, on the shores of Hawkes Bay,
After earthquake & Gabrielle, it’s come a long way,
A wine lovers heaven, and a foodies retreat,
This rural green region, where steep hills and plains meet
Kia Ora to Wellington, to the capital we came
Nicknamed ‘the windy city’ it lived up to its name
The museum of Te Papa, Beehive of renown
North Island goodbye, ferry to Queen Charlotte Sound.
Bustling port Picton, Te Wai Pounamu gateway
O’er the hills on to Nelson, for a two night short stay
Abel Tasman National Park, this group so hung ho
Braved a Totoranui cruise as those strong winds did blow
The West Coast did welcome with a clear sunny day
Waimea Gorge, Buller Valley, towards Westport way
Narrow one-way bridges over swollen rivers that gush
Tracey well-steered a course through the ranges so lush
A lunch in Cape Foulwind, how lucky were we?
To bask in the sun, not a cloud did we see
A night in Punakaiki, on rugged coastline raw
The gals stormed the beach, frolicking around on the shore
Franz Joseph Glacier, a sad tale of ice-loss,
Our lives of over-consumption must come at a cost
Through World Heritage wilderness up over the Haast
In awe of the scenery through which we have passed
Skirting stunning Lake Wanaka, Southern Alps towering high
As the backdrop to Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu beside
Coronet Peak, the Remarkables, Arrowtown, Milford Sound
Is one exciting playground, non-stop adventures abound
Mt Cook so majestic, under clear Southern Skies,
The Church of Good Shepherd beside Lake Tekapo lies
Around every bend breathtaking beauty astounds
Finally to Christchurch, my nostalgic childhood home town
And real thanks to Tracy, coach driver extraordinaire
Safely navigated two islands with a laugh and no fear
She joined as a sister hand in hand with mate Bruce
At least when he spoke he was telling the truth!
To the Sisterhood Pledge, you all did adhere
Of kindness and caring with bright smiles you did wear
Lesley, Kay, Jenn, Brigitte, Denise, Sonya, Judith, Deb
Kiwi Sisters I thank you, a great group we have had
Haere ra Aotearoa, or New Zealand farewell
As you return to Australia with many tales to tell
New friends you have found with warm memories to treasure
To have you travel with us is a Sisterhood pleasure
