A Journey to Remember

We embarked on an unforgettable adventure, starting with a few days in Adelaide, the city of festivals. We delighted in a trip to the Barossa Valley, enjoying a wine tasting experience at Seppeltfield, then spent a charming (and wet) day in Hahndorf. We savored lunch at Maggie Beer’s and took a surprisingly captivating tour of the Adelaide Oval and Bradman Museum. We also visited The Cedars, the home of Hans Heysen, where we admired remarkable displays of Australian art.

Our journey continued aboard the legendary Ghan. We traveled 2,980 km through the heart of the Australian outback over three unforgettable days. We relaxed in the luxurious saloon lounge as we were wined and dined on this iconic train. Highlights included a stop at Marla to witness an off-train sunrise, complete with bacon, eggs, and a cup of tea.

Upon arrival in Darwin, we basked in the warm, inviting weather—a great mid-winter break from the cooler states! We visited the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, viewing impressive NT art and an exhibit on Cyclone Tracy. We also explored the Darwin East Point Military Museum and the Adelaide River War Cemetery, gaining insights into the WWII invasion of Australia. Our adventure continued with a trip to Pine Creek and Kakadu National Park, where we enjoyed sunset cruises, thrilling wildlife searches, and the enchanting beauty of the Top End with its unique customs and untamed landscapes. And yes, we relished the sun’s warmth.

The best part of this remarkable journey through the center of our country was the group of gentle women who came along with me. Their mutual care and companionship enhanced every moment. Thanks, girls—until next time.
