Some Southern African Splendour happened recently when a bunch of wonderful women banded together to enjoy the treasures of this great continent. We waste no time getting down and dirty with the locals in Chobe National Park, Botswana. We venture into the park early morning to witness a pride of lions strategically circling a herd of buffalo hoping for a kill. Returning in the afternoon to see elephants cross the river after feeding on Sedudu Island all day. They become angry and attempt to move the lions on! We know we are sooo lucky to witness life in the jungle.
Next, it’s on to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Locally known as Mosi oa Tunya (the smoke that thunders). We rise early to walk to the falls. Mother Nature does not disappoint despite it being the dry season. The rainbow over the spray is our reward for rising early. This afternoon we pay a visit to a Mpisi Village. We are welcomed with open arms as they share an insight into daily life. It’s basic, it’s harsh but they are happy! We round off the day with high tea at the very grand Vic Falls Hotel and an interactive drumming experience at a Boma Dinner. This tour is delivering in spades.
Our tour moves to South Africa with game drives and pure indulgence at Kapama River Lodge and a private game reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park. We set out in search of the big five but see so much more. Our luxury lodge is a welcome retreat – a slice of heaven in the African bush.
Finally, we venture to Cape Town at the tip of magical Africa. We venture to the tip of this incredible continent. We climb high above the clouds to enjoy the top of Table Mountain. We enjoy a tipple or two in the winery region. A humbling experience sees us on Robben Island and Franschoek – where Nelson Mandela finally walked free.
As our African adventure comes to an end we leave enriched for our experiences together and appreciative of the freedoms we enjoy in our home country. If you’ve enjoyed reading about our adventure, join us next year when Sisterhood Womens Travel returns for more Southern African Splendour. Watch out for details on our website.
